On 23–24 January 2019, I attended WeMeet Asia in Kuala Lumpur with Jessica Baron, then Editor-in-Chief of TechEngage. The gathering — hosted by WeDo Technologies at the Four Seasons in the Golden Triangle — brought operators and technologists together around telecom, fraud, AI and the early 5G conversation.

Why we showed up

TechAbout’s work has always been export-facing. You do not learn how Asian operators think about risk, networks and trust by reading press releases. You learn it in rooms where people still have to ship systems that do not fail at scale.

WeMeet was useful for exactly that: frank discussion on fraud patterns, AI’s double edge for telecom businesses, and what 5G would demand from vendors who want to stay relevant.

What travelled home

Relationships first. Technical curiosity second. The reminder that Pakistan’s digital companies belong in regional conversations — not as spectators, but as builders with something to trade.

That trip sharpened how we talk about TechEngage’s coverage and how TechAbout shows up with international partners: listen hard, ship carefully, leave with more than a badge.
