On 8 March 2022, at Aiwan-e-Sadar, TechAbout received the Presidential IT Award for Best Performance in the IT Sector — our third consecutive year recognised by the President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi.
Awards can look like endpoints from the outside. Inside a company they feel different: a pause, a thank-you, and a reminder that the next quarter still has to be earned.
What the hat-trick actually marks
In 2020 we received the Presidential Export Trophy. In 2021, the Best Software Company honour. In 2022, Best Performance in the IT Sector again. Three years. Three ceremonies. One continuous argument: Pakistani software teams can compete on quality, exports and reliability — not just on cost.
None of that happens because one founder stands on a stage. It happens because engineers, designers, marketers, writers and operators keep shipping for clients who have better options than us. The award belongs to that discipline.
Why the IT sector moment mattered
The pandemic forced a national conversation about digital infrastructure that should have happened years earlier. Hospitals, restaurants, manufacturers and exporters suddenly needed systems that did not break when people could not walk into an office. That pressure was painful — and clarifying.
At TechAbout we answered with products and services clients could run: ERP and CRM work, hospital systems, accounting software, publishing platforms and the digital brands that sit around them. The mandate stayed the same as 2017: digitize human potential, and make Pakistani capability exportable.
The only metric that survives the applause
President Alvi’s emphasis on IT’s contribution to GDP was the right frame. Trophies are signals. Jobs, exports and software that still works on a Tuesday morning are the proof.
After the ceremony I said publicly what I still believe: Pakistan’s IT sector can reach far larger export scale if we treat craft as non-negotiable. That is the work — not the photograph.
